SurveyMonkey appoints Hale as president

US – Online survey company SurveyMonkey has hired former HomeAway chief operating officer, Tom Hale, to be its new president.

Hale will oversee engineering, product, product marketing, user experience and growth at the company. His appointment is also to help SurveyMonkey as it embarks on a transition from a survey platform into a data business. As such, he'll be working on both the core subscription models and developing new data solutions.

Prior to HomeAway, Hale held senior positions at Second Life developers, Linden Lab, and Adobe Systems. He was also an entrepreneur-in-residence at Redpoint Ventures.

Zander Lurie, CEO of SurveyMonkey, said: “Tom is an industry veteran who is known as a culture leader and innovator. He has incredible experience building out teams and bringing both business and consumer products to market.”

This is the latest appointment as the business settles following the sudden death of its CEO, David Goldberg, in May last year. Lurie took over as CEO at the beginning of this year after a brief six-month tenure by Bill Veghte.
