Placed lands $3.4m investment for location analytics

US— Location analytics firm Placed, formerly Sewichi, has closed a $3.4m Series A round of funding led by Madrona Venture Group.

Joining Madrona in the funding are Shane Atchison, the CEO of WPP-owned marketing agency Possible Worldwide, and Placed founder David Shim, a former product director and director of operations for web measurement firm Quantcast.

Madrona’s MD Matt McIlwain said: “Placed is at the intersection of two major trends – location information powered by smart devices and big data analytics. Under David Shim’s leadership, Placed already has a world-class team and a strong position in location analytics. And David’s track record at Quantcast, Farecast, and aQuantive uniquely position him and Placed to leverage location analytics on behalf of their customers.”

Alongside the funding, Placed has also announced details of its first product offering, Placed for Developers, a tool that allows mobile app developers to see where their apps are being used. It is currently in private beta.
