MRC pulls Arbitron’s Radar and Nationwide accreditation

North America Technology

US— The Media Ratings Council (MRC) has withdrawn accreditation for Arbitron’s Radar and Nationwide radio research services because both include data from markets where unaccredited portable people meter-based (PPM) ratings systems are in use.

PPMs are used by Arbitron to count radio audiences in 43 markets, but only three of those have been accredited by the MRC. The firm said that it intends to “continue to use commercially reasonable efforts in good faith” to pursue MRC accreditation of its PPM technology and to regain accreditation for the Radar and Nationwide services.

Arbitron’s Radar report is published four times a year and provide estimates of national radio listening figures, while the Nationwide report is published twice a year and provides clients with information about the demographic composition of radio audiences.
