Book researcher BML acquired by Bowker

M&A North America

US— Publishing services firm Bowker has acquired UK-based book researcher BML for an undisclosed amount. BML, which runs the Books & Consumers survey and the BookZone research panel, will be integrated into Bowkers business intelligence division.

Bowker runs a consumer information service in the US similar to the BML offering, called PubTrack Consumer, which gathers feedback from more than 40,000 people annually to produce data on book buying behavior.

Kelly Gallagher (pictured), Bowker’s vice president of publishing services said: “BML is a great strategic fit in our business intelligence division as we grow our footprint in the international market. BML has a strong tradition of serving the UK market with reliable and actionable consumer information and we look forward to not only continuing this work, but developing and enhancing the range of services BML offers.”

BML managing director Jo Henry said: “I’m delighted that BML has found a new and congenial home. We have enjoyed working with Bowker Publishing Services on a number of projects recently and look forward to working more closely with them as we develop and enhance the range of services we offer.”

The UK firm was previously a division of Publishing News and all its staff and management, including Henry, will move to Bowker’s London office.
