US— Gridiron football team the Baltimore Ravens has hired Sandy Weil as director of football analytics to produce and study data about game trends, statistical analysis, NFL scouting and player production.
Weil joins from the world of basketball after working as a consultant with the San Antonio Spurs where he was responsible for analysing player data. Over the course of his career he has worked as an energy analyst and product manager at Ascend Analytics and on the derivatives trading desk at investment bank Bear Stearns.
Ozzie Newsome, general manager at the Ravens, said: “We’re always looking confirmation on things we think we know and insights that could provide an edge for us in personnel and coaching. This is where Sandy will help us.”
