UK public more at home in local areas, ONS data shows

The ONS data, part of the UK Measures of National Well-being framework, showed 63.6% of people agreed or strongly agreed that they felt like they belonged in their neighbourhood in April 2026, up from 53.3% in June 2025 and at the highest level for four years.
However, figures from March 2026 showed 29.2% of people trusted the UK government, albeit an increase from 21.9% in December to January 2025/26, and also at the highest level since 2023.
ONS said 70.4% of UK adults reporting “good” or “very good” health in early 2026, a decrease from 75.4% five years earlier.
Satisfaction with the healthcare system increased to 57.2% of adults in March 2026, up from 50.1% the previous year.
The proportion of people who believe they do not have say in what government does has decreased to 63.8% of adults in April 2026, compared with 69.2% in June 2025. However, ONS said that the 2026 figures were collected in a period just before elections in Scotland, Wales and parts of England.
