UK – Marketing research and effectiveness company System1’s head of marketing and market intelligence, Tom Ewing, has announced he is leaving the company at the end of October.
Ewing (pictured) has been with the company, formerly known as BrainJuicer, for eight years. He is leaving to embark on a freelance career although will continue to do some work with System1, with the decision to part company entirely amicable.
Ewing started at BrainJuicer in 2011 as digital culture officer, became head of System1’s politics unit, before becoming head of marketing and communication. He has also worked at Kantar, Research International and Nielsen.
“I’m enormously proud of what I’ve done at System1. I’ve helped establish bedrock communications principles, revamped our tone of voice, made our newsletter and website way more effective, and run the very widely covered Cannes study we just did. But I’ve always had a semi-formed plan to go freelance in my mid-40s and I feel like ‘quit when you’re ahead’ is a good policy,” said Ewing.
As a freelancer, he wants to offer his data- and research-orientated writing and communication services, especially to start-up and younger agencies.
“A lot of the time you see punchy media stories which have very flimsy data, and also insight organisations who do brilliant work but don’t always communicate the story or value in what they’re doing well. So, I’m hoping there’s room to help out,” added Ewing
