Google connects with content engagement monitor

M&A North America

US— Google has acquired PostRank, a company that monitors and collects data on how online content is shared and commented on.

The company, founded in 2007, offers data and analytics services to publishers trying to understand how and where audiences engage with their content, while a service called Connect is designed to help brands and marketers pinpoint influential publishers.

Chief technology officer Ilya Grigorik and CEO Carol Leaman will be moving from Ontario with the rest of the PostRank team to Google’s Mountain View offices in California.

Writing in a blog post, they said: “We know that making sense of social engagement data is important for online businesses… Indeed, conversations online are an important signal for advertisers, publishers, developers and consumers – but today’s tools only skim the surface of what we think is possible.”

  • In related news, Paul Botto, a former head of Google Analytics sales and enterprise, is to lead the analytics and measurement business at online video research firm Visible Measures. He was most recently vice president of sales at social media marketing firm Brickfish.
