Competition invites UK students to redesign iconic brands for the future
The competition, Design in Sight, is being run at 25 UK universities with graphic design courses. Launched by The Big Picture to mark its 20 year anniversary, students will be invited to choose a brand from a shortlist including Andrex, Maltesers, Häagen-Dazs, Daddies Sauce and Malibu.
Entrants will then carry out research to uncover and explore the trends that might affect their chosen brand in the future, with the aim of using their findings to create a brief and final design. Their efforts will be judged by FMCG brand marketers, designers and design research experts, and prizes include paid internships and the chance to have their work exhibited.
John Cassidy, founder and managing director of The Big Picture, said: “We’re extremely proud and excited to be launching this ground-breaking nationwide student design competition, using the occasion of our 20th anniversary to champion what we’re passionate about – how research can inspire, inform and guide great design – and enthuse the next generation of designers.”

What a great idea. A truly creative and effective way of finding new young talent and getting them to engage with brands in a way that displays their viewpoint.
