GERMANY— The German Society for Online Research (DGOF) has announced that Martin Welker has been appointed chair, replacing Olaf Wenzel, who has stood down for personal reasons.
Welker is professor of journalism at the Macromedia University for Media and Communication in Munich.
Lars Kaczmirek of Gesis, the Leibniz Insitute for the Social Sciences, takes over as treasurer, while Monika Taddicken of the University of Hamburg joins the board. Holger Geissler of YouGovPsychonomics remains as the fourth member.
Wenzel will continue to support and advise the society where necessary, said Welker.
Wenzel said that a major theme at the society’s online research conference in May had been how the nearly endless data resources of the internet can be used for scientific and applied research. This would continue to be one of the society’s main areas of focus, he said.
