Tobii launches webcam-based eye tracking tool

The tool, part of the Tobii Pro Lab product, allows researchers to use webcam eye tracking to launch studies online and collect gaze data from participants’ computers.
Tobii said that the tool could help expand participant reach and reduce fielding efforts, making research projects more accessible in the process.
The tool is built on Tobii Nexus technology, and is suitable for areas of interest-based attention measures, such as preferential-looking tasks.
Webcam eye tracking for research will be available as a distributed online research tool for remote studies, with a local research version for controlled studies on-site planned for release later in 2026.
Gunnar Troili, senior vice-president, products and solutions, at Tobii, said: “Webcam eye tracking for research broadens our product portfolio towards the scientific community by offering them a simple way to conduct remote studies in research fields where our high performing hardware-based eye trackers are not necessary for sufficient data quality.”
