Santander’s Saj Arshad to become president of MRS

UK – The Market Research Society (MRS) has announced that its next president will be Saj Arshad, chief customer & marketing officer at Santander UK.

Arshad will take up the position at the beginning of April, following the end of Jan Gooding’s five-year term.

With extensive experience in a broad range of sectors including healthcare, technology, retail and financial services and fashion, Arshad has been using data insights to drive customer, marketing and digital transformation for over 30 years. In August 2020, he joined Santander UK where he is responsible for customer insight, experience and engagement, as well as marketing, brand and sponsorship

Before joining Santander UK, Arshad worked on the boards of a number of organisations, including Bupa UK, Alshaya Group and Vodafone, where he led the total overhaul of retail stores and digital channels, as well as the implementation of a global customer relationship management (CRM) capability.

With a commitment to the constant development of the marketing industry, its professionals and its impact on society, Arshad has previously held voluntary positions as board member and fellow of The Marketing Society and as a mentor for younger marketers with The Marketing Academy.

One of the highlights of the MRS online Impact 2022 conference being held from 16-17 March will see Arshad in conversation with outgoing president, Jan Gooding.

MRS chief executive Jane Frost CBE said: “With his extensive experience in marketing, Saj will make a great ambassador for MRS. Jan has been an inspiration to me in her support of the inclusion programme and I look forward to working with Saj on this too.”

Referencing his appointment, Arshad commented: “I’m delighted to become president of MRS. In my career as a marketer and particularly in my current role I fully understand the powerful advantage that can be gained from research. Indeed, recognising that we, marketers, are not the consumer and must always prioritise looking at the world the customer or user sees is one of the most important lessons we learn. Respect for our customers starts with listening to and understanding them.

“I’m particularly honoured to be taking over from such a dynamic force for inclusion as Jan Gooding. I know she has lent her considerable expertise and energy to helping drive the diversity and inclusion programme that MRS is spearheading. I look forward to pushing forward with this agenda.”

Outgoing president Jan Gooding added: “I am absolutely delighted that Saj Arshad is taking over from me as president of MRS. Saj is already recognised as an industry leader, role model and mentor, so I am confident his appointment will be widely welcomed.

“Given his reputation for driving the customer agenda through robust analytics, and exploring new techniques, I am sure he will bring a huge amount to the industry. I hope he enjoys this fascinating and rewarding role as much as I have.”
