UK – Audience research body for out-of-home (OOH) advertising Route has appointed Denise Turner as chief executive.

Denise Turner

Turner (pictured) joins from Newsworks where she has served as director of research and insight since 2015.

She previously held roles as chief insight officer at Havas Media Group and head of research at Starcom, as well as being a Fellow of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA). She will use this experience to continue developing Route’s offer.

The appointment decision was led by Route chair Katherine Almond, Justin Cochrane, chair of Outsmart, the marketing body for OOH media, and Alistair MacCallum, chair of the IPAO, the IPA’s group of OOH specialists.

Formally starting her new position as CEO in July, Turner replaces Robert Ray, chief executive since 2020, who is retiring.

Commenting on the appointment, Almond said: “Robert has done an outstanding job of leading Route through the pandemic period and bedding in our new currency, we are sad to see him go. Denise’s experience with industry bodies and media agencies alongside her industry reputation, will be invaluable to us.”

The IPAO’s MacCallum added: “Route has a critical role to play in OOH’s future growth through the development of its new currency, how we are able to understand the movement of people in the UK and the way that this insight is applied to deliver better outcomes for clients. Denise’s leadership and rich knowledge of the media space will be key to keeping Route at the forefront of innovation.”
