Remesh files copyright infringement claim against Kantar
The claims relate to a customer relationship between the two companies that began around nine years ago, during which Remesh said it shared confidential access to its software platform with Kantar.
The lawsuit from Remesh, filed on 16th September in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, claims that Kantar released an unauthorised ‘copycat’ product in June 2025.
Kantar has denied the claims and has said it will defend itself against the action.
Remesh said that Kantar reverse engineered and copied Remesh’s software and user interface to develop the Kantar Live, Kantar ART and Kantar ART AI platforms.
The complaint also alleges that Kantar incorporated Remesh’s proprietary software into a US patent application.
Gary Ellis, chief executive at Remesh, said: “We filed this lawsuit to protect our valuable intellectual property and business interests.
“We are confident that the legal process will vindicate our position.”
In a statement to Research Live, Rebecca Symondson, general counsel at Kantar, said: “As a business built on innovation and intellectual property, we understand and value all IP rights. Our rigorous examination of Remesh’s claims – which were communicated in initial correspondence in vague and non-specific terms followed by a refusal to specify further when requested – has found them to be unsupported by any fact.
“We transparently shared this with Remesh, so it is disappointing they have resorted to this route. We will defend ourselves against this action and protect our reputation as an industry innovator.”
