UK – Newspaper publisher Reach has appointed Facebook’s Maureen McDonagh to the newly created role of chief customer officer.

McDonagh, who takes up the role at the end of January 2020, will be responsible for leading a data and customer strategy at the company, working closely with its digital teams.

At Facebook, she was industry head for the client-facing retail team, working with clients including Tesco, M&S and Arcadia. Prior to joining the social network in 2013, she held roles at Nectar Loyalty and News UK.

McDonagh will report to chief executive Jim Mullen and sit on the senior executive committee. She is the first senior appointment made by Mullen since he joined the business in August.

Mullen said: “With her blend of media, e-commerce and customer loyalty experience, Maureen will be perfectly placed to drive our customer-centric vision and targets forward, ultimately helping us to continue to innovate and develop new customer revenue streams. I am delighted to welcome her to the Reach plc executive team.”
