OzTam and Netflix integration expands Australian TV viewing metrics

AUSTRALIA – TV ratings body OzTam and Netflix have signed an agreement to integrate the streaming service’s ad tier census data into Australia’s industry currency, VOZ.

For the first stage of the multi-year integration, OzTam has updated its Streamscape reporting for the third quarter of 2026, with the reporting now separating Netflix ad tier (the company’s advertising-supported subscription plan) and non-ad tier viewing on connected TVs.

The new breakdown shows how the company’s ad tier viewing compares with other streaming services and offers the industry a view of Netflix’s ad tier’s contribution to overall viewing figures for the first time.

The second stage of the partnership will see the industry able to analyse Netflix ad tier content-level viewing alongside existing VOZ total TV data through accredited third-party software tools, using the same metrics and breakdowns available for current VOZ reporting.

OzTam will continue to release VOZ currency data for broadcast TV and broadcast video on-demand (BVOD) daily, with daily Netflix ad tier viewing data delivered monthly.

Karen Halligan, chief executive, OzTam, said: “Bringing this data into Australia’s industry currency is a significant step towards a more complete view of how Australians watch video.

“Independent, people-based audience measurement provides an objective view of actual viewing behaviour. By bringing Netflix ad tier viewing into the same measurement framework as broadcast TV and BVOD, we’re giving the industry a more consistent and comparable understanding of audiences across platforms, supporting better-informed planning and investment decisions.”

The methodology behind the integration will also lay the groundwork for OzTam to represent other SVOD platforms in future, Halligan added.
