US— Nielsen is to re-state ratings for nine TV stations in four of its metered markets after discovering a problem with the software used to process ratings data.
The ratings firm said that it identified a problem that affected some stations in Albuquerque, Austin, Birmingham and Indianapolis and is “currently implementing a solution that will ensure that this issue will not impact the November 2010 cycle data”.
Nielsen said that the affected stations fell into the “parent + satellite” category, where a local satellite station rebroadcasts content from its parent channel.
News of the glitch follows problems in Nielsen’s online measurement technology, where a bug prevented some websites with long URLs having all their visitors counted. The firm is currently examining data going back to the beginning of the year to determine the extent of the problem.
