US – Nielsen has announced it will use its Portable People Meter (PPM) technology and panellists to measure out-of-home viewing of national TV.
Clients using its service will now receive audience estimates combining in-home TV viewing based on its National TV ratings panel, with out-of-home viewing based on its PPM panels.
It will give both programme and commercial ratings for live and live +seven days times shifted viewing. The service will launch in April 2017 with data effective from January 2017.
The out-of-home data will be based on data from its 75,000 PPM panellists across 44 local markets.
Sara Erichson, executive vice-president, Nielsen Client Solutions and Audience Insights, said: "While consumers have always watched TV outside the home, that viewing has not been measured. This new measurement enables both buyers and sellers to understand the incremental reach of advertising messages."
