Nielsen and OzTAM agree TV measurement contract extension

AUSTRALIA— OzTAM has extended Nielsen’s contract to carry out television audience measurement in the country for another two years, from 2015 to 2017.

Once the new measurement deal kicks in, Nielsen will increase the size of its panel in the country to 3,500 homes from 3,035. In addition, 10% of the panel will be fitted with meters that measure viewing on both TV sets and PCs.

The expanded panel will bring the sample size to 950 homes in Sydney, 900 in Melbourne, 650 in Brisbane and 500 apiece in Adelaide and Perth.

OzTAM CEO Doug Peiffer (pictured) said: “We are currently working with Nielsen to develop the options for reporting viewing across multiple screens and to provide initial top-line insights to the marketplace later this year.”
