MRS sponsors data journalism award
The awards scheme recognises and rewards the best journalism students, apprentices and trainees.
MRS has jointly sponsored the data journalism category alongside the British Polling Council.
The category recognises the skills in visualising data and reporting and developing stories from data sets and FOI requests. It covers two awards – one for best student entry and one for best trainee (a journalist working towards their senior reporter qualification).
Shortlisted in the data journalism category are:
- Students: Jinqian Li, University of Sheffield; Rut Urios Vidal, University of Kent; Sharmeen Ziauddin, Kingston University
- Trainees: Isabella Boneham, National World; Eamon Farhat, Bloomberg; Damian Shepherd, Bloomberg
Jane Frost, chief executive, MRS, said: “Evidence matters even more than ever, which is why we have been delighted to work with the NCTJ and British Polling Council to help journalists learn to understand polls better and report them more accurately; and why we are delighted to support this award to celebrate data journalism at its best.”
The winners of the 2022 Awards for Excellence will be announced at a ceremony on 2nd March.
