Matt Hancock promoted to culture secretary
He replaces Karen Bradley, who is becoming Northern Ireland secretary. Bradley was appointed as culture secretary in 2016.
Hancock, MP for West Suffolk, moved to the department of culture, media and sport (DCMS) as the minister of state responsible for digital policy, following the appointment of Theresa May as prime minister in 2016. In the role, he was responsible for broadband, broadcasting, creative industries, and the tech industry.
The culture secretary has overall responsibility for strategy and policy across DCMS, with policy areas including arts and culture, broadcasting, telecommunications and online, the creative industries, and media ownership and mergers.
