While the free version has proved popular with everyone from individual bloggers to owners of large sites, Google Analytics Premium is designed specifically to target large organisations with sophisticated needs – competing directly with tools from the likes of Adobe and IBM.

The service promises more processing power, advanced analysis, 24-hour support and service level agreements for data collection, processing and reporting. It is currently available to customers in the US, Canada and the UK for a flat annual fee.

Google said pilots of the new service had been conducted with companies including Gucci, Travelocity, TransUnion and eHarmony.

The free version of Google Analytics, which launched in 2005, will continue to be available, the firm said. It also announced the introduction of Google Analytics Real-Time – a set of reports allowing users to analyse traffic on their site as it happens.
