US— Gongos Research founder and CEO John Gongos died yesterday aged 51. He had been diagnosed with metastatic melanoma only this month.
Gongos started the firm in 1991 and continued to lead it until 10 July this year. At the time of his death, Gongos was also a board director of the Council for American Survey Research Organizations (CASRO) and co-chaired its Management Conference in June.
Camille Nicita, Gongos Research COO and acting president, said: “There are simply no words to describe the loss of our mentor, friend and leader. Twenty one years ago he set out to create a company that was an expression of who he was as a person. His essence is reflected in all of us at the company and because of that, his legacy will live on.”
Gongos’ funeral will be held on 30 July, and the company will be closed for business that day.
He is survived by wife Anne, daughters Ali and Olivia, and son Austin, mother JoAnn, sister Laura, and brother Jim.

My heart and prayers goe out to Anne and their family. I have always had a special place in my heart for John and his awesome company. I worked there for a span of 7+ yrs when needed for Focus Groups in the evenings allowing me to stay home and raise a family. John would come into the kitchen facility where I'd be cleaning up after a Focus Group had ended and ask about my family and how I was doing with school and just talk to me as if we had known each other for years. He was also a very compassionate man as I shared with him the news of finding my birth father who lived in Nevada and how I had been searching for him for 10 years. A few days later I discovered John had purchased a place ticket for me to fly out and meet my father. He was just that kind of person who cared and wanted to know the people who worked for his company no matter the level they were employed. I will truly miss him and all he provided for me when nobody would. God Bless You John!

I had few contacts with Mr. Gongos, but was very impressed by him and his vision. Having lost my father under similar medical conditions a few months ago, my sympathies go out to all who knew and worked with Mr. Gongos.

I was shocked to learn of John's passing, I had worked at Gongos Research as an intern while in college back in the late 1990's. John interviewed and hired me and he was a great leader, kind man and I am saddened by this news. John will be missed, God bless his family, friends and staff.
