Gallup stops approval ratings for US presidents

Gallup first ran a poll on approval and favourability in 1937, during the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt, and has been routinely publishing approval ratings for every US president since Harry Truman was in office in 1945.
The company said that the decision to end the poll reflected “an evolution in how Gallup focuses its public research and thought leadership”.
Gallup’s latest US presidential approval rating is currently around the 36% mark for Donald Trump.
A statement from Gallup said: “Our commitment is to long-term, methodologically sound research on issues and conditions that shape people’s lives. That work will continue through the Gallup Poll Social Series, the Gallup Quarterly Business Review, the World Poll, and our portfolio of US and global research.
“This change is part of a broader, ongoing effort to align all of Gallup’s public work with its mission. We look forward to continuing to offer independent research that adheres to the highest standards of social science.”
