US— The Discovery Channel has appointed former Nielsen executive Steve McGowan as senior vice president of research, where he will be responsible for planning and directing all broadcast, digital media, marketing and ancillary research.
Before joining Nielsen in 2003, where he was senior vice president for insights and client research initiatives, McGowan spent 13 years at the Discovery Channel’s owner, Discovery Communications, as research director.
John Ford, Discovery Channel president and general manager, said: “Steve brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to a field that is constantly changing. His experience and instincts will increase our analytical research focus on audience trends and better strengthen our development process and advertising opportunities.”
McGowan succeeds Kevan Mabbutt in the role and will start work in July.
