Founded in 2013 by Dan Wagner, formerly chief analytics officer on the 2012 Barack Obama presidential election campaign, Civis Analytics offers a cloud-based data platform.

The company works with brands, non-profit organisations and government clients on informing audience campaigns and measuring advertising effectiveness. It reported over 60% revenue growth and its first full-year profit in 2020.

Alumni Ventures and existing investors Drive Capital, Verizon Ventures, Eric Schmidt and Silicon Valley Bank participated in the funding round.

Civis will use the investment to develop more data science-based products and continue growing its team.

It recently appointed several new hires, including Maeve Ward as vice-president of research.

Erik Hammer, partner at Alumni Ventures, said: "Civis continues to add great talent to the team, it is bringing tangible value to an impressive roster of clients, and governments at all levels are accelerating investment in analytics. The fact that it grew profitably across sectors through the pandemic is a testament to the strength of the business."
