AOL names Joslin as UK director of research and business intelligence

UK— AOL has appointed Scott Joslin as director of research and business intelligence – one of three key appointments to its UK marketing team.

Joslin is an internal appointment, having previously been director of international business intelligence for AOL Time Warner. Before that he was director of marketing, metrics and analysis for AOL in Canada. He first joined the company in February 2006.

Now based in London, Joslin reports to David Shing, head of media and marketing for AOL Europe, as does new hire Scott Williams, who joins the firm as head of creative solutions from Shine Communications.

Fraser Rattray has also joined the company as trade and product marketing manager, reporting in to Eugenia Makhlin, AOL Europe’s director of marketing.

Shing said: “These latest additions to our marketing team come at an important time for AOL in the UK as we focus on greatly improving the consumer experience and pursuing our strategy in the marketplace.”

AOL has been busy remaking itself as an online content and advertising company in the wake of its split from Time Warner in December, moving beyond its beginnings as a provider of web access and email services.

However, with advertising revenue down across the board last year AOL embarked on a corporate-wide cost-cutting drive, hoping to save $300m annually. A voluntary redundancy programme was implemented which prompted the recent departures in the UK of Andrew Bradford, director of insight and strategy, Scott Fleming, head of research and studies, media research executive Maria Pelekanos and Zosia Rich, European research manager for AOL Advertising.

Bradford has since resurfaced as Nielsen Online’s vice president of media client consulting in the EMEA region, while Pelekanos has taken up the role of insight manager at Experian Interactive.
