Nessa Jackson is part-time quality and compliance manager at Perspective Research Services, while also being an NHS nurse, based at Royal Free Hospital in north London.

At Perspective, Nessa conducted an internal staff survey measuring factors such as home working conditions, morale and work-life balance.

Once the survey was completed, Nessa held one-to-one sessions with staff to follow up on issues raised, and then created an action list that was put to the board to implement. Nessa also led the company’s ISO accreditation upgrade in 2020 and helped its application for B Corporation status.

Nessa was nominated as a Research Hero because “she is absolutely critical to our business and is highly thought of by colleagues and senior management, and she is hugely respected for her work not just with us but also with the NHS.”

What is the biggest challenge you have faced during your career?

Working throughout the Covid-19 pandemic has been the biggest challenge I’ve faced in both my careers. I am impressed by how well the team at Perspective pivoted quickly and efficiently to continue our data collection work, but it required some creative thought and rigorous planning to make it happen.

We were adapting as the pandemic unfolded and continue to now. A positive consequence of facing this challenge has been emerging with a stronger team ethos. We all made an effort to keep in touch regularly and check in on each other, a habit which continues now.
