US – The US Census Bureau has begun hiring temporary workers to conduct the ‘person follow-up’ phase of its post-enumeration survey (PES).
Beginning in June, the PES measures the accuracy of the census by estimating how many people and housing units were missing, duplicated or erroneously counted.
The person follow-up phase of the PES involves census takers returning to select housing units previously interviewed to confirm the bureau’s records.
Fieldwork for the PES began in January and is scheduled to run until November 2021. The first results of the PES will be available in December, with more results planned for March 2022.
Temporary workers will be recruited partly from other Census Bureau surveys and programmes, including the 2020 census. No workers will be assigned cases on which they have already worked.
