US – The US Census Bureau is to implement a data equity initiative for underserved communities.
This includes the release of the Data for Equity webpage, press kit, director’s blog and more highlighting datasets and tools available to help federal agencies and other entities identify and equitably distribute resources to underserved communities.
The Census Bureau collects demographic, housing, socioeconomic, business and other data about the nation’s economy and population from a multitude of sources.
Earlier this year, president Biden announced a federal agenda to advance equity for all Americans, including people of colour and others who have been historically underserved, marginalised and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality.
In a blog on the bureau’s website, acting director Ron Jarmin noted that it “has an ongoing commitment to producing data that depicts an accurate portrait of America, including its underserved communities. We understand first-hand how important this data is: we use it ourselves to better reach hard-to-count populations.”
More details of the scheme are expected to be announced in the coming months.
