TikTok strengthens anti-bullying features

US – Social media platform TikTok has launched a new anti-bullying feature to give users more control over how people interact with their videos.

TikTok app on a phone

The new feature will allow video creators to manage interactions with their content more easily and delete multiple comments at once, or report commenters for violating TikTok’s community guidelines.

Accounts that post bullying or other negative comments can also be blocked in bulk, with users able to select up to 100 comments or accounts to remove at once rather than remove each individually.

The feature will be rolled out globally over the next few weeks, and follow recent changes by TikTok to allow users to filter comments on their videos.

The company has also recently added extra safeguards for users aged 13 to 17, including restrictions on comments and direct messages, and a bullying prevention guide in TikTok’s safety centre.

Joshua Goodman, director of product, trust and safety, at TikTok, said in a blog: “People put their hearts and souls into creating and entertaining on TikTok, and we recognise how discouraging it can feel to receive unkind comments on videos.

“We hope this update helps creators feel more empowered over their experience on TikTok.”
