The process to becoming a B Corp requires meeting targets in five areas: governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

Businesses must provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency.

Once B Corp status is reached – certified by B Lab UK – the company must make a legal commitment to maintaining these standards through amendments to its articles of association.

There are almost 6,000 companies worldwide and more than 1,000 in the UK that have been accredited as a B Corp.

Peter Dann, founding partner at The Nursery, who led the certification process, said: “This is an exciting step for all the partners at The Nursery as we feel that the B Corp vision of business as a force for good aligns with our values and aspirations for the company.

“I’m enormously proud of The Nursery and all the hard work that goes into making it such a special place.”

David Alterman, chief executive at The Nursery, said: “Becoming a B Corp demonstrates how committed everyone at The Nursery is to doing business differently and better.

“As co-owners our partners care about our business and our clients’ businesses, and responsible businesses consider their community and environment alongside profit.”

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome The Nursery to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates and we know that they are going to be a fantastic addition to the community.”
