‘Strong recovery’ for Aegis’s retail scan data firm

UK— Aegis has reported a strong recovery for its retail scan data business Aztec, with revenue up 22% to £66.2m in 2011.

Operating profit was £8.1m, up 80%, with an operating margin of 12.2%.

Aztec was formerly part of Synovate – though it wasn’t included in the sale of that business to Ipsos last summer.

Aegis runs the company separately from its principal line of business, which is media services, and although observers think Aegis will eventually look to sell Aztec to a trade buyer it has continued to invest in the company. In October it acquired Swedish CRM and direct marketing specialists Dubblera and Smicker, while taking full ownership of UK-based retail sales data analyst SalesOut in December.
