SAP to acquire Dremio for data integration

Through the acquisition, SAP wants to expand its SAP Business Data Cloud’s ability to combine SAP and non-SAP data, allowing for more effective running of analytical and AI workloads.
SAP said Dremio helps to remove the data fragmentation and integration issues often associated with enterprise AI projects.
Dremio facilitates self-service analytics for data teams. The company is headquartered in Austin.
Through the acquisition of Dremio, SAP Business Data Cloud would become an Apache Iceberg-native enterprise lakehouse that unifies SAP and non-SAP data. Apache Iceberg is an open-source table format, and SAP Business Data Cloud will natively support it as its foundation.
“Enterprise AI doesn’t stall because the models aren’t good enough; it stalls because the data isn’t ready for AI agents,” said Philipp Herzig, CTO, SAP SE.
Herzig added that the combination of SAP and Dremio would “take customers from raw, fragmented data to governed, AI-ready intelligence”.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, and the transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
