Research growth fuels Gartner Q3 revenue performance

US— The research arm of IT analyst Gartner has reported a 17% increase in revenue for the third quarter and achieved record new business during the period, helping push company-wide sales up 12%.

Gartner’s Q3 revenue came in at $296m, while turnover on the research side of the business was up from $185m to $214m. Net income across the business was unchanged at $20.1m.

Research contract values increased from $742,885 to $905,506, while client retention increased to 82% from 77% last year. On the consulting side, revenue stood at $65.4m compared to $65.7m in 2009.

CEO Gene Hall (pictured) said: “We achieved record new business in research, higher client and wallet retention, and continued acceleration in many of our other key business metrics during the third quarter. As a result of these better-than-expected results, we have again increased our financial outlook for the full year 2010.”

Total revenue is forecast to be in the region of $1.27bn and $1.3bn, with research contributing between $855m and $865m.
