FRANCE— Rentrak has acquired French cinema box office measurement agency Cine Chiffres to create Rentrak Cine Chiffres, a new company that the duo said will be the “premier provider” of cinema viewing data in the country.
Cine Chiffres, which was formerly part of media group Arnoldo Mondadori, has been measuring box office receipts for the past 40 years, mainly in Paris and the surrounding suburbs. Rentrak, meanwhile, has been operating in France for 13 years.
The duo said that their partnership would provide clients with the access to the “most robust, timely and accurate box office figures available”.
Sylvain Laurendeau, former business manager at Cine Chiffres and now head of client service and communication at the new company, said: “Rentrak gave the film industry its first view of worldwide film performance, and we are excited to join forces with them to create Rentrak Cine Chiffres. Together, we are focused on continuing to provide the best and most accurate French box office data to our customers by offering premier measurement services to theatres and content creators throughout France.”
Rentrak CEO Bill Livek (pictured) added: “As the world’s fourth largest market for movies, France remains extremely important to the global theatrical landscape. Rentrak Cine Chiffres is continuing a long-standing commitment to this important market by giving motion picture industry decision makers throughout France a never-before-seen comprehensive view of the marketplace.”
