Recruitment begins for US census test
The 2026 census test will be the first major trial of new tools and methods in preparation for the decennial population count.
It is the first of two major on-the-ground tests to be carried out.
The agency is recruiting census takers, outreach assistants, field supervisors and trainers in the six site locations chosen for the census test: Colorado Springs, Colorado; Huntsville, Alabama; Tribal Lands within Arizona; Spartanburg, South Carolina; Western North Carolina and Western Texas.
In addition to the test activities in the six sites, the 2026 census test will include a separate national sample, with materials mailed to households, inviting them to respond to the test online, by phone or by mail.
