Earlier in his career, McLellan spent 14 years at Dunnhumby in various leadership positions, including managing director of UK and Ireland, before becoming group customer propositions director at Dunnhumby owner Tesco, and later joining Asda.
McLellan will take up his new role at M&S at the start of 2027.
The M&S customer rewards programme, Sparks, allows customers to earn monetary rewards into a digital wallet. The company relaunched the scheme earlier this year to offer more personalisation, based on a set of new and updated AI and data capabilities.
