UK — The latest league tables from the Market Research Society (MRS) have revealed that the industry grew by 2.5% over the last 12 months.
The annual league table ranks the largest organisations (those with a turnover exceeding £3m) in the UK research and insight industry by UK-based turnover. This year data collection and panel businesses were included for the first time in the ranking.
The 2013 tables, compiled in October this year, showed that Kantar retained its top rank by turnover, followed by Dunnhumby (ranked fourth in 2012 ) and Ipsos MORI (ranked second in 2012 ).
The MRS report on the league tables stated that in 2013 all organisations featured in the table collectively generated over £2.5 billion of turnover.
“It is very encouraging to see that the research industry is showing renewed strength and tangible growth. It has been a tough few years and it is testament to the resilience of the industry that there have been no departures from the table over the past year,” said Jane Frost, MRS chief executive.
“The tables reflect the wide range of talent and skills deployed by organisations, from the largest public global groups, to the boutique businesses, to provide the market and customer understanding needed by both business and the public sector. This includes everything from monitoring, measurement and understanding of markets in support of well informed, evidence-based decision-making.”
