MRS director general to step down next year

UK— David Barr, director general of the Market Research Society (MRS), has announced his intention to step down at the end of September 2011.

He has been in the role since 1997, and during his tenure he oversaw the service integration of the former trade association, the British Market Research Association, with MRS and the creation of corporate scheme through the Company Partner Service, effectively creating a single voice for the UK research sector.

After 14 years in the role, Barr believes that the market research and insight sector faces many new challenges and opportunities, as does MRS itself. He said: “The pace of change is accelerating, and now is the ideal time for MRS to have fresh leadership.”

Vanella Jackson, MRS chairman and global CEO of Hall & Partners, said: “David has made a fantastic contribution to the Market Research Society during his tenure. His many achievements include creating a more professional organisation, giving the MRS team a strong focus and direction, as well as expertly dealing with the many different demands of the role.”

Recruitment for Barr’s successor will begin shortly, with the expectation of a transitional handover.
