Media thinker, consultant Erwin Ephron dead at 79

US — Erwin Ephron, a noted media consultant who began his career working in PR for Nielsen, has died at the age of 79.

“[He was] a brilliant, creative, hard-working writer who stimulated all to think more clearly about media,” said Gale Metzger, a long-time friend and associate, quoted on the MediaPost website.

Ephron was well-known, not only for his consultancy work, but for his many open letters, written to the industry, in which he addressed big, complex media issues (one of which inspired a 2006 Research Magazine article on the subject of engagement).
