McDowell Group founder dies

US — Eric McDowell, the founder of the McDowell Group, has died aged 69 following a brief illness. McDowell, who worked in Alaska, was praised as a “brilliant researcher, consultant and facilitator” by agency managing principle Jim Calvin.

McDowell founded the agency in 1972 and, by billings, the firm is one of the leading Alaskan businesses. Core projects under his watch included the Alaska Travelers Survey, which has been in existence since 2001.

His professional passions included Alaska Native corporate and tribal interests, strategic planning and facilitation, Alaska’s seafood and tourism industries, and looking at the state’s major social problems.

McDowell is survived by his partner, Lana Tolla, and son, Chris.
