US— A new barcode scanner app from Kinesis Survey Technologies allows research respondents to record their purchases using their smart phones.
Kinesis says the scanner captures all barcode information, including product brand, type and size, as well as geolocation and timestamp data.
Chief technology officer Juha Vehnia believes the app has “immense” potential to improve point-of-purchase research.
“The ability to report purchases in the moment via barcode scanning enables more immediate and accurate tracking of purchase patterns,” he says.
Called MobileScan, the app will be made available to market research firms under a licence agreement.
