Ireland’s data regulator probes X use of posts to train AI
The probe will focus on whether data processing from publicly accessible users’ posts on the platform to train generative AI – including the Grok large language models (LLMs) – was lawfully processed.
The DPC will examine compliance with a range of key provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including regarding the lawfulness and transparency of the processing.
Grok is a group of AI models developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, which help to inform a chatbot on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
Ireland’s DPC can impose fines of up to 4% of a company’s global revenue under GDPR.
