DoCoMo and Intage plan research joint venture

JAPAN— Mobile phone giant NTT DoCoMo is planning a market research joint venture with Intage, according to tech news website Nikkei.com.

The plan seems to involve installing software meters on the smartphones owned by DoCoMo subscribers to collect information on when, where and how new products are selling, with Intage analysing the data to produce market reports.

DoCoMo will own 51% of the joint venture and Intage the remainder. The two firms are said to be considering using the same approach in other Asian markets after the Japanese launch in March. Click here for the Nikkei report.
