The hub will offer researchers, individuals working in broadcast, film and interactive media, and social impact professionals access to experts, resources and funding.

OKRE is backed by partners including research charity Wellcome, UK Research and Innovation, Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Unbound Philanthropy.

Iain Dodgeon, director of OKRE and formerly broadcast, games and film manager at Wellcome, said the hub would "facilitate collaboration between the research, entertainment and social impact sectors and help unlock the full potential of the knowledge, skills and innovations in our industries".

He added: "OKRE’s goal is to fuel the development of fresh ideas in both content and research, expanding understanding of the world and creating positive change in society."

OKRE will build on Wellcome’s work in the film, television and games industries, including the Screenwriting Fellowship, which awards a £30,000 bursary to a screenwriter to explore the intersection between screenwriting, health and science. Lucy Prebble was announced as the 2019 Fellow last night ( 27th November).
