Boost in UK consumer confidence in June
The index said that consumer confidence was at -18 overall, based on a nationally representative sample of 2,001 UK adults carried out between 30th May and 13th June 2025.
The measure for the general economic situation of the country during the last 12 months was up three points to -43, albeit 11 points worse than in June 2024.
Expectations for the general economic situation over the next 12 months rose by five points to -28, but again was 17 points worse than the same month the previous year.
However, there was no change in the index measuring changes in personal finances during the last year, which remained at -7 and three points better than in June 2024.
The forecast for personal finances over the next 12 months was also unchanged at a positive score of two, but was two points worse than this time last year.
The Major Purchase Index was unchanged at -16, and seven points better than this month last year, while the Savings Index has dropped a further point to a positive score of 27 in June – this is five points better than June 2024.
Neil Bellamy, consumer Insights director at GfK, an NIQ Company, said: “Consumers have been resolute in their views on their wallets, with June’s personal financial situation scores (past and future) unchanged from May. Yet confidence is still fragile because the dark shadow of inflation is a day-to- day challenge for so many of us.
“With petrol prices set to rise in the coming weeks following the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, and with ongoing uncertainty as to the full impact of tariffs, there is still much that could negatively impact consumers. With so much volatility, now is certainly not the time to hope for the proverbial ‘light at the end of the tunnel’.”
