US – Elon Musk, chief executive of Twitter, has announced that the company has appointed Linda Yaccarino as its new chief executive, after he acquired the social media network last year.
Yaccarino is the former head of advertising at NBCUniversal. She will focus on business operations at Twitter, according to a tweet from Musk.
Musk wrote on Twitter: “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! [She] will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology.”
“Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”
Musk will transition to the role of executive chair, according to a previous tweet.
Yaccarino previously spent over 11 years at NBCUniversal Media, most recently chair of global advertising and partnerships. Prior to that, she worked at Turner for almost two decades, in the roles of executive vice-president and chief operating officer of ad sales, marketing and acquisitions.
Musk bought Twitter for $44bn in October 2022, and his tenure has been marked by a number of changes, including reinstating previously banned accounts and introducing a subscription-based ‘Twitter Blue’ service.
He announced in December he would seek a new chief executive of the company.
