Louella Miles – Research Hero
Louella Miles, editor, Association for Qualitative Research (AQR)
Louella Miles has been the editor of the AQR’s publications In Brief and In Depth for over 30 years. She also conducts webinar interviews and has helped with the communication and marketing of AQR.
Miles was nominated as a Research Hero because: “Her knowledge of the UK qualitative research industry, and contemporary issues, as well as her great journalistic style and creative mind have kept both publications fresh and relevant year after year, helping make it the vibrant association it is today.”
What is the biggest challenge you have faced during your career?
Whether to use research to inform a news story, knowing that to do so could – among other things – result in mass redundancies for blameless staff.
What will be the next big trend or development in the research industry, and why?
Clients turning to qualitative research to help them get closer to communities.
Who inspires you as a researcher?
It would have to be as a journalistic researcher, and I would choose Louis Theroux currently (with help from a whole load of other researchers!).
