Danielle Scott – Research Hero

Danielle Scott, secretary and national cases manager, MRBA
What began as a six-hour-a-week role, when Danielle started in 2008, has expanded significantly – supporting the committee with increasing applications, the development of a skills bursary, expanded corporate patronage and our new Inmind bursary. Danielle serves as secretary, treasurer and national cases manager.
Danielle was nominated because she has "an innate desire to help people when they face severe financial distress; with this she continues to prioritize the aims of the organization, sometimes at great personal expense."
1. What is the biggest challenge you have faced during your career?
The biggest challenge has been supporting individuals through periods of significant personal hardship while balancing empathy with practical decision-making. As national case manager, I am often in contact with people facing illness, bereavement, financial difficulties, or unexpected life changes. Every situation is unique, and some conversations are incredibly difficult. Ensuring that people feel heard, respected, and supported is important in the role.
2. What will be the next big trend or development in the research industry, and why?
While advances in technology and artificial intelligence will over time transform how research is conducted, I believe the most important trend will be a renewed focus on people. Research is about understanding human experiences, behaviours and needs. As our tools become more sophisticated, the industry’s challenge will be to ensure that technology enhances rather than diminishes the human connection.
I believe the research industry will place increasing emphasis on wellbeing, mental health and financial resilience. Recent years have shown that anyone can face unexpected personal, health or financial challenges. As a result, organisations such as the Market Research Benevolent Association will play an even more important role in supporting people through difficult times, ensuring that help, guidance and practical assistance are available when they are needed most.
3. Who inspires you as a researcher?
I am continually inspired by the MRBA committee members and case managers who volunteer their time to support the charity. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working alongside people who willingly give their expertise, compassion and energy to help colleagues facing some of the most challenging periods of their lives.
